Public Transportation in Pilsen

Městská hromadná doprava v Plzni

Pilsenské městské dopravní podniky, a.s. provides most of the public transportation services within the city of Pilsen. The public transportation system in Pilsen consists of three modes: trams, trolleybuses, and buses. Three tram lines form the backbone of the city’s transit system, connecting the largest suburbs with the city center, the train station, and the bus station. Trolleybus lines play a similar role, serving all major suburbs except for the northern suburbs. Bus routes serve as an important supplement to the tram and trolleybus networks, connecting individual suburbs with one another and providing service to smaller city districts.

In Pilsen, the vehicles of each of the three modes are color-coded, and in combination with white, they form the four-leaf clover of Pilsen’s city colors—trams (yellow), trolleybuses (green), and buses (red). Public transportation in Pilsen ranks among the most environmentally friendly urban transit systems in Europe—two-thirds of passenger traffic is handled by trams and trolleybuses, which do not pollute the city’s environment with harmful emissions. Moreover, thanks to the visibility of the rail and trolleybus networks, every visitor to the city can easily see where the main routes run, making it simple to find the nearest stop. We hope you enjoy your trip on Pilsen’s public transit system!
